Lodgepole Communitas, Paper Birch Books, and the Anglican Diocese of Edmonton are pleased to welcome Maggie Helwig, celebrated social justice activist, Anglican priest, and author of Encampment: Resistance, Grace, and an Unhoused Community (2025) for an evening of readings, conversation, and stories. We are honoured also to welcome Father Michael Lapsley, founder of the renowned Institute for Healing of Memories, as a special guest.
Purchase tickets ($10) online here.
We are grateful to Maggie Helwig and Paper Birch books for their support of this event as a fundraiser for the PrayerWorks Community Meal Program, which provides over 300 hot meals, respite, warm welcome, and gathering space every week at the hall at Lodgepole Communitas. Funds raised will be used to purchase groceries and supplies and cover operational costs as we head into winter.
Tea and coffee, plus snacks by Ugandan Treats, a social enterprise bakery connected to Lodgepole, will be available.
Two books by Maggie Helwig, Encampment: Resistance, Grace, and an Unhoused Community (2025, Coach House Books) and Instructions for the End of the World: Homilies of Comfort and Resistance (2026, Coach House Books) will be available for purchase at the event. You can also reserve a copy for pick-up using the links above. Paper Birch Books will be donating all proceeds of book sales towards PrayerWorks in support of this event.
Join us and other faith and justice oriented folks, organizers, and frontline workers in celebration of social justice and community for an evening sure to be lively and life-giving. All are welcome!
Additional donations given when purchasing tickets will also go to PrayerWorks, which is hosted by Lodgepole Communitas at St. Faith's Anglican Church.
