The Anglican Parish of Christ Church will host a Virtual Neighbourhood event on Wednesday, May 19, 7 pm, on Zoom Meeting ID: 880 5857 2386 Passcode: 964259. Guest speaker the Rev. Heidi DeJonge, pastor at Westside Christian Fellowship in Kingston ON, will be speaking about The Neighbourhood to Come.

Throughout the season of Easter, The Anglican Parish of Christ Church is exploring themes of justice, sabbath, love, neighbourliness, diversity and faith using the example of the life and faith of Fred Rogers.

"Mister Rogers, a children’s TV icon, was an ordained Presbyterian minister whose quiet faith imbued his television show," says the Rev. Canon Sue Oliver, rector of Christ Church.

Many of us have been moved by recent coverage of Mister Rogers, and Rev. Sue says she is no different. She remembers going to see the documentary Won’t You Be My Neighbour and leaving the theatre overcome with tears, hope and a deep desire to quite simply "be more like Mister Rogers!"

"In a world that has become increasingly polarized and divided it seems fitting to reach out in love to our neighbour," she says. "Our worship and learning series was sparked by Mister Rogers' simple message of love and being a neighbour to everyone."

  • Themes emerging from Mister Rogers' teachings were woven into Sunday morning worship, recorded and live-streamed on the Christ Church YEG Live YouTube channel;
  •  You can listen to weekly podcasts on Christ Church's website;

Whether you are her literal neighbour, or a virtual neighbour from another parish or city, Rev. Sue invites your participation in the "Won't You Be My Neighbour" learning and discussion series.
