A Pastoral Letter on the Transgender Day of Remembrance 2025
Dear Friends in the transgender, gender-diverse, and Two Spirit communities,
All I want to say in this letter is how grateful I am to you for all the joy you bring to our church family. I appreciate your humour, your unique perspective, and your originality. Thank you for your participation in our diocese and for your call to us to be more and more shaped like Jesus. You are a beloved and integral part of our Christian community.
I pause on this day to remember and give honour to the members of the transgender, gender-diverse, and Two Spirit communities who have lost their lives due to violence, and I also pause to give thanks for your gifts. I am deeply sorry that you continue to face discrimination daily, both individually and collectively – including those resulting from the decisions of the Government of Alberta this past week.
I love you; God in Jesus Christ loves you, and I pray that during this Transgender Awareness Week leading to the Trans Day of Remembrance, you find an abundance of love and support.
Blessings,
Bishop Steve
