New Parish in West Edmontonwelcome to St. Peter the Apostle! On October 4, a new Anglican parish began in the west side of Edmonton. St. Peter the Apostle Anglican Church became the 47th parish of the Diocese of Edmonton. St. Peter has been a Filipino congregation of St. Matthias for 13 years. It has now grown in size and viability enough to become an official Anglican parish. Originally only for northern Filipinos (Igorot), this new parish seeks to embrace all kinds of people and to serve the common good of its neighbourhood (Aldergrove, West Henday, and the Hamptons). It will embrace a blend of Filipino and Canadian Anglicanism. Reflecting on the day, Padi Eric, the new parish's priest-in-charge, said, "The people of St. Peter's have worked really hard to be a church and have asked, from the very beginning, for a consecration. It is a joy to see this work recognized and included in our Edmonton Anglican Family! It is a joy to see all God has done with this church. We are grateful to God for this work and trust more will come as we become a Parish." With files from the Rev. Eric Kregel Read more in the December issue of The Messenger! |

Mapping Compassion Across Canada with Alongside Hopeparish workshop available A recent Alongside Hope gathering brought together our Alongside Hope leaders and Indigenous wisdom holders from across Canada, including the Anglican Church of Canada’s National Indigenous Anglican Archbishop Chris Harper, Diocese of Edmonton Archdeacon for Indigenous Ministries Travis Enright, and Mapping Coordinator Helen Chan Bennett. This event celebrated collaboration in building communities of healing, reconciliation, and mutual care. The Anglican Church’s mapping exercise highlights where ministries of hope, justice, and compassion are taking root across the country. By participating, dioceses help illuminate the Church’s collective witness—where the Spirit is already at work, inviting us to walk together in hope and renewal. Contact Rev. Helen to book a “Sharing Our Narrative” Mapping Exercise (2 hours) at your church. There is no charge. - The Rev. Helen Chan Bennett |

Community Regeneration ConferenceSpreading Good Earth in the City with Dr. Ronald Pate - Sunday, November 16, 2025 2:00pm - 5:00pm hosted by Arts on the Ave Community regeneration focuses on reviving and strengthening an area’s social, economic, and cultural health. This half-day workshop reveals how inclusive stories-telling leads to transformation. Dr. Ronald Pate is an author, educator, and facilitator-guide whose work in community development and urban planning integrates narrative processes with interdisciplinary research and spiritual insight. Holding a PhD in Urban Studies and Planning (Portland State University), and a master’s in American studies (University of Alabama), along with graduate theological studies, Pate is known for his pioneering research on a broadly transformative community-building project in Georgia. His facilitation of stories-telling with groups continues to foster collaborative vision and sustainable outcomes. Spread the Word - Support Each Other and Our Ministrywe are happy to help spread the word Part of what unites us as a family of churches is the support we give one another and our ministries. We can do this by sharing our news and events (e.g., youth gatherings, parish fundraisers, worship services, community outreach, public lectures) here in the Synod Scene, the diocese's weekly e-newsletter. We have created a form to simplify this task. Click on the button below to upload a graphic or picture (horizontal / landscape orientation; 1500x784 px), and your brief news/event information. Submissions must be received by Tuesday at noon for inclusion in the current week's newsletter. Because the Synod Scene is public and posted to the diocesan website every week, please use parish (not personal) contact information in your submissions whenever possible. Have questions?
