Throughout General Synod, from July 10-16, members of Edmonton diocese were holding delegates and their decision-making in ongoing prayer. Apart from the untold number of individuals who prayed, and intercessions offered on Sunday morning, four evening prayer services were held at Christ Church in Edmonton for those who wanted to gather corporately for prayer and worship and to stand in support of GS 2019.

The Rev. Sue Oliver, rector of Christ Church, organized the services and invited clergy from various parishes to lead.

  • July 11, the Rev. Jordan Ware of Good Shepherd, Edmonton preached and the Ven. Richard King of St. Luke’s, Edmonton celebrated the Eucharist.
  • July 12, the Rev. Myron Penner of St. Paul, Edmonton preached and the Rev. Chelsy Bouwman of Christ Church celebrated.
  • July 13, the Ven. Travis Enright of St. Faith, Edmonton led a special service using the Standing Stones liturgy.
  • July 15, the Rev. Stephen London of St. Thomas, Sherwood Park preached and the Ven. Lee Bezanson of St. Matthew’s, St. Albert celebrated.

Around 20 people attended Thursday, Friday and Monday and close to 50 on Saturday for Standing Stones service. Rev. Sue says the services went very well and “it was wonderful to hear from different voices in our diocese and to be able to gather in prayer and fellowship.”
